Why The Thrive Team is Supporting Tech Time Out Tuesday

Technology plays an important role in keeping us connected and productive. Yet there’s a growing recognition that constant connectivity can sometimes create barriers to genuine human connection. That’s why The Thrive Team is proud to support Tech Time Out Tuesday on 3rd December 2024 – an initiative created by Tech Time Out in partnership with MHFA England

About Tech Time Out

Tech Time Out is an organisation dedicated to helping individuals and workplaces build healthier relationships with technology. Their mission focuses on enabling better digital wellbeing through training, challenges, and workplace accreditation. The Tech Time Out Tuesday initiative brings together organisations across the UK to promote mindful technology use and enhanced human connection.

The Power of Mindful Tech Use

Technology has transformed how we work and live. It offers incredible tools that help us stay efficient and in touch with colleagues and loved ones. However, the continuous notifications, endless emails, and constant screen time can impact our wellbeing and ability to connect meaningfully with those around us.

Our Commitment to Balance

The Thrive Team has signed the Tech Time Out pledge, recognising that while technology is essential for modern work and life, taking mindful breaks can enhance both our professional and personal lives. We’re committed to creating space for genuine human connection by stepping away from our screens.

Here is our pledge:

“The Thrive Team has signed the Tech Time Out pledge.  We recognise the importance of technology and the positive part it plays in our professional and personal worlds today.  It helps us stay productive and connected and can make life easier.  We also recognise that at times technology can be a barrier to connecting as humans so we’re making a conscious effort this Tech Time Out Tuesday to taking a few minutes away from our screens to connect as humans.”

Practical Steps for Better Digital Balance

Here are some ways we’re encouraging our team and clients to participate in Tech Time Out Tuesday:

  • Setting specific times for checking emails rather than responding to every notification
  • Having face-to-face conversations instead of sending messages
  • Taking proper lunch breaks away from screens
  • Using the Pomodoro Technique to include regular screen breaks
  • Implementing the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds
  • Consider a Digital Detox Challenge

Building Stronger Connections

When we reduce our dependence on screens, we create opportunities for deeper engagement with colleagues and clients. We are passionate about this – helping organisations win by ensuring their people thrive.

While 3rd December marks Tech Time Out Tuesday, we view this as part of our broader commitment to workplace wellbeing. By being mindful of our technology use, we can build stronger teams, maintain better work-life boundaries, and create more supportive workplace environments.

Join Us in Taking a Break

We invite other organisations to join us in recognising Tech Time Out Tuesday. Small changes in how we use technology can lead to significant improvements in workplace wellbeing and team dynamics.

Whether it’s a 10-minute break from screens, a walking meeting, or setting aside dedicated tech-free time, every step toward more mindful technology use helps build healthier, more connected workplaces.

Technology should enhance our lives, not control them. By taking conscious breaks, we can ensure we’re using technology in ways that truly support our wellbeing and productivity.

The Thrive Team is committed to helping organisations create environments where people can perform at their best. Contact us to find out more about our approach to workplace wellbeing and team development.
